Blogs : AS THE PLOT THICKENS, THE SECRET ACCUSER

By: Steve Cates

It seemed odd that so many people who know Sandy Blunt personally think so highly of him while some people seem to want to destroy him. I started thinking about this and all the seemingly strange connections of people in this whole sordid affair. I started to wonder, how many people can be traced to what specific action? Who for instance signed the document that was presented to Burleigh County State’s Attorney Richard Riha claiming that a crime had been committed, and that Riha should investigate? Who got the ball rolling on the felony charges? Is someone who has been actively trying to destroy Sandy Blunt, say a state senator, some political figure, a Democrat Party functionary, or a former WSI employee the person that got the ball rolling? I stopped at the Burleigh County Court House and asked for a copy of the letter or document that would explain this mystery. Assistant State’s Attorney Cynthia Feland had someone call and tell me that that document could not be made public. Two people are being accused of a felony and we are unable to ascertain who is the accuser? Seems strange to this writer.

Back in December of 2006 Joel Heitkamp began circulating a letter asking that the agency’s board of directors remove Workforce Safety and Insurance (WSI) CEO Sandy Blunt. When Blunt and Romi Leingang were charged with felonies, Democrat legislators attended the news conference.

There seems to be a core group of former and current WSI employees that have been intimately involved in efforts to remove Blunt as well. Some of these people are connected to the North Dakota Office of the State Auditor (OSA), Angie Scherbenske (who’s husband Kevin is an auditor at OSA), Joanne Maher (who’s brother Ed Nagal is the Director of OSA), and Tammy Dolan (OSA employee before WSI).

Some are mentioned in Todd Flanagan’s deposition as possible suspects in the "email spam" episode that lead to the "conspiracy to disclose confidential information" by showing NDDOT driver’s license images during the course of an official WSI investigation. Two former WSI employees, Jerry Becker and Berry Miller seem particularly busy and interested in the removal of Sandy Blunt.

Then, last week when I was talking to Scott Hennen on his WDAY radio show "Hot Talk", there was a call from a listener who had some questions. This caller with a rather distinct voice had questions about my relationship to the Mark Armstrong family and my claim that the OSA Performance Audit final document was unlike any other. A few minutes after the radio interview I got several phone calls telling me that the caller/questioner was none other than Barry Miller, former WSI Internal Audit Manager. Upon further reflection, the questions seemed to me to be stated in the exact manner as I had seen posed by a blogger who called himself "Barney". Weird.

Maybe this is a huge leap of logic but I think the plot is thickening. Curiouser and Curiouser.
