I offer my confession. It’s easy to throw stones, and I’ve certainly done my fair share of chunking. That said, let there be no doubt there’s a lot to cheer about in my adopted home sweet home of North Dakota.

PRO-LIFE DEATH?

With the results of November 4, there will likely be another 35 years of Roe v. Wade—plus much, much more. Pro-lifers need to regroup and think hard about how to try to ensure that the next 35 years of legalized abortion in America will not produce another 50 million aborted babies.

DENNIS PATRICK: THE REAL CRISIS

Our current crisis is a direct result of economic tinkering by the government. Mark-to-market asset valuation is a scheme imposed by the feds to fix a dollar value on bank assets. The Community Reinvestment Act is a law designed to force banks to lend to low income borrowers regardless of their ability to repay the loan. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are government entities created to guarantee risky mortgages banks were required to make to low income borrowers. In retrospect, these government creations served to make some federal political appointees very wealthy at taxpayers expense. Will we see Franklin Raines, former CEO of Fannie Mae, and Jamie Gorelick, former Vice Chair of Fannie Mae, frog-marched to prison like we did Ken Lay of Enron fame? All of them "cooked the books" for their own financial gain.

STAGE ONE THINKING AND POLITICAL ECONOMICS

A $700 billion bailout is the most recent example of stage one thinking. The current financial fiasco is proclaimed by politicians but not necessarily concurred in by many economists. Congress urgently seeks to “fix” the “crisis” they set in motion years ago with the Community Reinvestment Act (Google it!). Amazingly, the enactment of the bailout takes place with few, if any, congressional hearings. Is anyone thinking beyond stage one?

Rather than inform the public the North Dakota media circle the wagon to protect Democrat talker Joel Heitkamp. Ignoring the fining caused by a state senator's unrelenting efforts to undermine WSI. None of which (Heitkamp's undermining of WSI) by the way, turned out to be true.

HEITKAMP AIRS BLUNT CALL: CLEAR CHANNEL FINED $12,000

Joel Heitkamp, self proclaimed guardian of the public trust turns out to have taken a recorded private conversation and aired it publicly without permission. What is not stated in the FCC announcement is the fact that Heitkamp edited the phone message from Sandy Blunt and played it out of context and months after the call was made.

Keep your eyes peeled as this will be ignored and buried by the North Dakota media. The Bismarck Tribune will not print or bury the item in the back of the paper, the Fargo Forum will completely ignore it, and Prairie Public Radio will be silent.

ZALESKI PROVES LACK OF KNOWLEDGE: AGAIN

It only took 150 words to make two huge mistakes. But we begin to expect some interesting writing from Jack Zaleski, the editorial page editor of North Dakota’s largest circulation daily.

State Auditor Bob Peterson said the wife of his assistant, Ed Nagel, once worked for the agency, but left a year before the review. Ed Nagel's sister worked at WSI and left after the 2006 Performance Audit.
